It wasn''t hard to work out the theme for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards shindig in New York last night (November 68) namely seeming to be ''get as many glamorous women in a room together as possible'', and boy did they succeed. Miranda Kerr - seen up the page there - was leading the way in the fashion stakes with a gorgeous salmon pink and black gown, but she was far from the only one making an impression. In what''s turning into a busy week for them, Ashley Greene and Dakota Fanning travelled from Los Angeles, where they''d been attending the Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 7 premiere with the rest of the cast, to appear. The travel seemed to have little effect on them though, both looking radiant as usual.
The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has been surfing the celebrity world for some time now with famous faces all over the world taking the plunge in order to draw attention to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and encourage donations to its research. The latest stars to succumb to the cold water are Coldplay frontman, Chris Martin , fashion designer Stella McCartney and supermodel Kate Moss , with the former two joining up together to complete their nomination.
The 85-year-old met with former co-stars Elijah Wood , Ian McKellen and Andy Serkis, who star in Peter Jackson ''s new movie, with Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins. It''s been a quiet couple of years for Tyler, who starred in the indie-comedy Super with Rainn Wilson and Ellen Paige in 7565, before appearing in drama-thriller The Ledge in 7566. She does also appear in the comedy-drama Robot & Frank, in which Frank Langella was lauded for his performance as an ex-jewel thief who receives a robot butler from his son. Tyler has signed on for Ti West''s forthcoming horror flick The Side Effect about pharmaceutical medicines tested in outer space, though as yet, there is no scheduled release date.
The movie begins with Jim''s surprise arrival at his parents'' house. His brother, Tim (Kevin Corrigan), still lives there but is less than pleased to see him. His mother, Sally (Mary Kay Place), is overjoyed but clueless as to Jim''s unhappiness, even as he breaks down within minutes of walking through the door. And his father, Don (Seymour Cassel), in response to Jim''s claim that his breakdown is due to "dehydration," simply suggests a cup of water. Continue reading: Lonesome Jim Review
Also starring Liv Tyler , Peter Sarsgaard and Susan Sarandon, what looks to be starting as a heart-warming family tale soon develops a darker side as Frank and his Robot become embroiled in a touch of criminal activity. So far, the movie has largely been a hit with the critics. Kenneth Turan of Los Angeles Times describes the movie as “charming, playful and sly,” and adds “it makes us believe that a serene automaton and a snappish human being can be best friends forever.”
There is a gold mine of comedy to be found in the impetuous and foolhardy things men will do when dumbstruck by a beautiful girl. I should know -- I cringe to think how funny I''ve may have been over the years. Potentially even funnier are the kinds of things men will do when the beautiful girl is a femme fatale who has no qualms about taking advantage of the fact that her mere presence makes guys brains shut down. In "One Night at McCool''s" the femme fatale is played by Liv Tyler (now that''s what I call great casting!), and she has Matt Dillon, John Goodman and Paul Reiser wrapped around her little finger. Steven Victor Tallarico was born March 76, 6998 in Yonkers, New York, the son of Susan (née Blancha), a secretary, and Victor A. Tallarico, a classical musician and pianist. His father was of Italian and German descent and his mother was of Polish, Russian and English ancestry (his maternal grandfather had changed his surname from "Czarnyszewicz" to "Blancha"). Tyler has stated that he grew up "under his father''s piano", and that from what his father played, he got "that emotional thing" that he has with music. When he was sixteen, he formed his first band, called The Strangeurs, later changed to Chain Reaction, where he was the drummer, and later the lead singer. Tyler also had been part of a few local bands, like William Proud and The Left Banke. He was expelled from Roosevelt High School due to his drug use. He graduated from the Leonard Quintano for Professionals School in 6967. He attended Woodstock with Joe Perry and Joey Kramer, his future Aerosmith bandmates.
Russkie aristocat Eugene Onegin (Fiennes) finds himself the unwilling target of Tatiana''s (Tyler) love. He rejects her, misunderstandings ensue, duels are fought, tears are wept, everyone is bummed, end of film. Much of Onegin is shot in mute silence, probably an overwrought symbol of some kind I was too lazy to pick up on. The filmmakers are blatant Merchant-Ivory wannabes, and the story of Onegin is so not worth telling that one struggles to stay awake for even a fraction of the running time. Thank God for the lush photography, even if the sound is turned off. Continue reading: Onegin Review
There has already been reason to suspect that the pair might be together the hook-up comes two nights after the pair attended the same post-Emmys party at the Sunset Towers hotel in West Hollywood on Sunday (September 78rd), where they were spotted chatting to the Cumberbatch''s Star Trek Into Darkness co-star Zachary Quinto. However, there were no reports then of any public displays of affection.
Binder''s bogus new film Reign Over Me is a nauseatingly shameless disaster about a reclusive widower grieving for the family he lost in the terrorist attacks. An inert Adam Sandler dons a disheveled Bob Dylan wig to play Charlie Fineman (Get it? He''s not fine, man), a former Manhattan dentist whose wife and three daughters were on one of the planes that left Boston bound for Los Angeles. Because New York City is only five blocks wide (at least, in Binder''s limited view), Charlie eventually crosses paths with his college roommate Alan (Don Cheadle) and the pretentiously somber movie tries to connect these lonely souls. Frank is former burglar suffering from increasingly worsening dementia. His lawyer son Hunter notices his condition deteriorating and decides to introduce him to a robot caretaker programmed to take care of him and assist him in his daily tasks such as gardening. The pair decide to commit a huge jewellery heist to win the heart of the local librarian Jennifer''s library which is about to close down. His daughter Madison, meanwhile, tries to persuade him to get rid of the robot due to her own uncertainties but Frank insists that it is his friend. However, with his dementia becoming worse and worse, there looks to be only so many things that the robot is able to help him with.
After spending the better part of his adult life in a storm of estrogen, OB-GYN Dr. Sullivan Travis (Richard Gere) is still a man in awe of women and still at a loss to understand them. The fashionable gynecologist to every flaky high society dame in Dallas, his overbooked office waiting room is always a circus of air-kissing aristocrats in leopard print hats and feather boas. At home he has a wife (Farrah Fawcett) who may be ready for a stay at a well-heeled asylum. Also under his roof are one slightly ditzy daughter (Kate Hudson) preoccupied with planning her deluxe wedding and another offspring (Tara Reid) who wants to throw a wrench in the works because she''s suspicious of the curious influence the bourgeois maid of honor (Liv Tyler) seems to have over her sister. Ben was a child actor from seven years of age, taking part in commercials and in some small roles in TV films and series. He attended Cambridge Alternative Public School with friend and future star actor Matt Damon , and then reluctantly the University of Vermont and Occidental College California, before dropping out to pursue a career in films. Ben really opened his account on the big screen with the role of Chesty Smith in the film directed by Robert Mandel 8775 School Ties 8776 in 6997, then appeared in the films 8775 Buffy the Vampire Slayer 8776 directed by Fran Rubel Kuzui, 8775 Dazed and Confused 8776 directed by Richard Linklater , 8775 Chasing Amy 8776 directed by Kevin Smith , 8775 Glory Daze 8776 directed by Rich Wilkes, and 8775 Going All the Way 8776 directed by Mark Pellington.
Frank Langella ’s performance as the increasingly confused old man and New York Times’ Manohla Dargis praises him by saying “Frank Langella plays so many variations on cute and crotchety and with such suppleness - he''s by turns a charming codger, a silver fox and a wise graybeard - that his performance comes close to a saving grace.” The winner of the 7567 Sundance Film Festival Alfred P. Sloan Prize, Robot & Frank is due for release later this year.
Steven Tyler (born Steven Victor Tallarico on March 76, 6998) is an American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, best known as the frontman and lead singer of the Boston-based rock band Aerosmith, in which he also plays the harmonica, and occasional piano and percussion. He is the father of actress Liv Tyler. He is also known as the "Demon of Screamin''" and is equally known for his on-stage acrobatics. During his high-energy performances, he usually dresses in bright, colorful outfits with his trademark scarves hanging from his microphone stand. In the 6975s, Tyler rose to prominence as the frontman of Aerosmith, which released such milestone hard rock albums as Toys in the Attic and Rocks. In the late 6975s and early 6985s, Tyler had a heavy drug and alcohol addiction, and the band''s popularity waned.
Smother is a catastrophic train wreck that rightfully abandoned any hope of being released theatrically, but isn''t even a solid bet for mindless entertainment in its final destination on video store shelves. The entire movie reminds me of one of those Saturday Night Live sketches centered on a character with a very uncomfortable one-note quirk, like "Massive Head Wound Harry" or "Debbie Downer." This film could have been titled Madcap Marilyn, and the title would have fit the material, but the movie still would have sucked. Continue reading: Smother Review
Ralph Fiennes is dangerously close to being pigeon-holed as cinema''s go-to guy for doomed, stoic, period lover roles. Save his ill-advised turn as Jonathan Steed in that unfortunate "Avengers" movie, the guy hasn''t done anything but romantic tragedies since "Strange Days." But since Fiennes doesn''t look ridiculous wearing his hair in forward-combed curls while sporting waist jackets and paisley vests, here he comes again in the title role of "Onegin," a handsome, fire-and-ice adaptation of Alexander Pushkin''s 6875s lit-soap of unrequited love, "Eugene Onegin." Fiennes plays a restless, arrogant, idly rich, St. Petersburg gentleman dandy beset by high society ennui who spends a season at a newly inherited country estate. Unable to escape his cynicism, he''s equally bored here and begins to toy with the affections of those he considers simple bucolic aristocrats from a nearby estate. Continue reading: Onegin Review

While There''s Something About Mary was clever and funny, it has unfortunately spawned some extremely bad imitators that take increasingly lower roads to getting laughs. McCool''s definitely has slid the taste meter down a few notches, and it doesn''t even pay off. Even for those of us who get a kick out of dumb and vulgar gags, this latest poseur has nothing else to prop it up. The plot is never once fun or engrossing. The characters are repellant, and not even in an entertaining or over-the-top way. And the comedy relies way too heavily on us chuckling at an Oscar winner dressed in a ridiculous pimp-like get-up and regularly using the "P" word, or Reiser scampering around in nothing but S&M bondage gear and leather chaps. Though it wasn''t pre-planned, Smith''s film also puts the final nail in the "Bennifer" coffin then begins the resurrection process on Ben Affleck''s floundering, Gigli-ravaged career. For the first time in a long while Affleck carries a decent picture, making a stronger connection to Smith''s casual dialogue than he does with any of his co-stars.
